Adam Scott excited for Sergio showdown

Aussie golf fans aren’t the only ones excited about the Australian PGA Championship, Adam Scott is also looking forward to his upcoming battle with Sergio Garcia at RACV Royal Pines Resort.
Preparing for the 30 November – 3 December tournament at home on the Gold Coast, Adam Scott took some time out to talk about the upcoming Australian PGA Championship and his good friend Sergio Garcia.
“Sergio’s playing in my backyard and it’s going to be great fun as a competitor but it’s also very exciting for the Australian PGA,” said Scott.
“He’s a true super star in the game of golf and having won his first Major, just creates that extra bit of buzz.
“The style of golf he plays is very appealing to people. For the true golf fans who want to come out and watch one of the best ball strikers to ever play, they are really going to enjoy that.
“Then for avid sports fans who like seeing some emotion, they are going to enjoy seeing that whether Sergio plays good, bad or indifferent
“He has that Spanish flare about him,” added Scott who posed with sand sculpture replicas of his and Garcia’s golf bags.
“It’s pretty neat to see, I am sure there was a lot of hard work that went into creating them.
“It is probably heavier than my actual bag so my caddy wouldn’t like it very much,” joked Scott.
While Australian fans will be able to see Garcia in action on the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia for the first time since 2010, Scott hopes they will be cheering him towards his second Kirkwood Cup victory.
“It’s the first time Sergio has come down to Australia in a while so we are all very excited about that,” added Scott.
“For me personally it would be great to try and win the Kirkwood Cup again. Any time you win it’s fantastic but if you have a little tussle with another top player as well is really good.
“Hopefully I will have the home crowd on my side. It’s not often anyone gets to play in front of a home crowd; since the tournaments move to the Gold Coast, and then winning The Masters, the support I have received has been amazing.”
It’s been a lean year for Scott on the golf course as the birth of his son, Byron, shifted his priorities closer to home.
However, Scott is confident of finishing his season on a winning note.
“I’d call my golf this year ‘consistently average’ but it wasn’t a mystery as to why so I’m confident of where I can get my game back to,” added Scott.
“I have got Sergio’s number a fair few times on the golf course which I don’t really need to brag about and rub in his nose since he is coming down here.
“We have played a lot of rounds of golf together and I feel like it’s always very competitive between us even though we are fairly close mates.”
“Hopefully we both play really well and get in the mix.”
Competitors on the course, Scott will play host outside of the ropes.
“I have talked to Sergio and his wife a lot about coming to Australia,” added Scott.
“We’re going to be competing at the Australian PGA but I’m going to host him in a way as well with an Aussie barbecue, pointing him towards the right restaurants and the places they’ll have the best time on the Gold Coast.”
