Australia’s most energetic golf tournament, the Australian PGA Championship, is just around the corner and is set to be a week not to be missed.
The ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia and the European Tour co-sanctioned tournament will be played from 1-4 December at RACV Royal Royal Pines Resort on the Gold Coast and will be headlined by World number 7 and local favourite Adam Scott.
The tournament is set to offer something for everyone with world-class golf, live entertainment and premium hospitality options. Here are 4 reasons why you should attend this year’s Australian PGA Championship.
1. Inside the Ropes
A strong Australian field will compete for the Kirkwood Cup with four of the top-5 Australians in the World playing this year’s tournament. After representing Australia at the Rio Olympics, Scott Hend and Marcus Fraser will join Adam Scott and his World Cup of Golf team mate Marc Leishman. Robert Allenby will be looking to equal Kel Nagle’s record of 5 Australian PGA Championship wins when he returns to the Gold Coast. Adding a bit of colour to the tournament will be 12 time European Tour winner and former World Number 5 Ian Poulter, who will be playing the tournament for the first time. Young American and fan favourite Harold Varner III will also be returning and will be looking to go one better this year after narrowly missing out on glory last year following a play off with Nathan Holman.
2. What’s on
There will be plenty of action away from the course with daily live entertainment within the hospitality areas and at the Tag Heuer Stage every night from 5pm including Aussie icon Shannon Noll on Saturday 3 December. The Cobra Puma Orange Crush Kids Day is a free event for children where they can try golf and meet some of their favourite golfers and Nickelodeon characters. Celebrating Australian golf, the Greg Norman Medal is Australian golf’s night of nights and will recognise the very best in Aussie golf. Whether you’re a golfer or not, the Ladies Summer Soirée will kick start the tournament in style. An afternoon to socialise, food and drinks will be available and we will be waiting for you with a gorgeous gift bag. We have also organised an exclusive Cobra Puma Golf fashion parade, making this an event not to be missed.
3. Away from the course
Whether it is relaxing at the iconic white sandy beaches, visiting the rainforests and waterfalls or enjoying the booming dining precincts of Broadbeach and Main Beach you are bound to have fun even when away from the course. The Gold Coast boasts some of the best and most consistent waves so if surfing is your thing, or even if you’re a first timer, make sure you tick this off your list when visiting.
4. Soniq Million Dollar Hole
This summer of golf’s most anticipated hole will be the Soniq Million Dollar Hole. On the Saturday night of the tournament, 10 lucky winners from the Play Your Way to the PGA competition will all try their luck at hitting a hole-in-one and if they do so, will win a golf simulator fully installed into their home valued at $125,000. But Sunday is when things get really exciting. Any Pro player to ace the par-3 16th will walk away with $500,000 for themselves and will win $500,000 in cash and prizes for one lucky fan as part of the Golden Caddy Bib competition. The Soniq Million Dollar Hole has even caught the eye of Adam Scott. “I am coming home and I can’t wait be back in Queensland for the Australian PGA Championship,” said Scott.
“But it’s the Million Dollar Hole that has my attention; I can’t wait to have a crack at acing the par-3 16th. It’s going to be an exciting week on the Gold Coast.”
The Australian PGA Championship will be played at RACV Royal Pines Resort from 1-4 December and will be co-sanctioned by the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia and European Tour for the second consecutive year.
The Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland as well as the City of Gold Coast and Gold Coast Tourism proudly supports the Championship.
