Scott rues poor start

Pre-tournament favourite Adam Scott was left to lament his disastrous start on day one after finishing two shots off victory in the Australian PGA Championship at Coolum.

Scott fired a final round 68 in windy conditions to finish in a share of fourth with Aaron Baddeley at 10-under par, two back from eventual winner Greg Chalmers.

It was an impressive comeback from the world No.7, who was five-over par through his first seven holes on Thursday.

He salvaged a two-under 70 on the opening day and was right in the mix late on day three before a costly double bogey at the 14th saw him start Sunday seven shots back.

Asked if he'd like to have his first seven holes of the tournament back, Scott replied: "Yeah I would, I reckon you could have probably played them better than me."

"I played well coming in but really at the end of the day yesterday was the killer for me because I was right there with five holes to go and five pars and I would have been looking great for today, but I dropped three shots off one bad swing really which is a shame."

The Queenslander was also left ruing missed birdie putts on his final two holes on Sunday but admits he was surprised to finish so close to the leaders on an unpredictable final day.

"I was a bit shocked that I was three back on the 14th tee but my holes were running out and I had to make a go of it," he said.

"I'm very surprised with the quality of players that's out there that they're not playing better today but that's the pressure of playing the final round of a golf tournament."

"I needed to birdie the last couple of holes, I gave myself chances and that's all you can ask for."

"I didn't putt quite as well on the weekend as I did on the first two days but you can't make them all and I played fairly good overall."

Scott will now take a well-earned break on the Gold Coast before returning to action in the Hyundai Tournament of Champions at Kapalua, Hawaii in January.
